What is solecist.net?
My long-form writing lives at domesticat.net, but I needed another place for Everything Else™
Originally, I set up a Tumblr blog, and rejoiced in the ability to aggregate a few things here and there -- mostly photos and bookmarks. It was nice. After a while, though, I knew I was outgrowing it. Tumblr only lets you aggregate from five sites at a time, and I had more than five places where I was posting things, and I knew eventually I'd outgrow the service.
Also, I wanted to own my own data. I was aware that Tumblr was saving off a low-resolution version of the images I posted to Flickr, and I just wasn't happy about that. I also had this crazy idea of aggregating everything together into a single tag cloud. Imagine being able to click on 'New York' and finding not just my photos, but my bookmarks and Yelp reviews, all in one place.
Enter Drupal. Enter the Feeds module for Drupal, specifically. Combining those two would mean I could build a site that would grow and expand as my web usage shifted -- if I started using a new site, and wanted to pull in my data, I could. As long as my content was available in an RSS feed, that is!
